Ascot Park Officially Opened
Thursday, 7 November 2019
The Brisbane Racing Club together with Brisbane City Council officially opened the new Ascot Park on Sunday 3 November.
BRC Chairman Neville Bell was joined by Lord Mayor Adrien Schrinner, local Councillors, residents and BRC Members at the unveiling.
The former Members' carpark was handed over to Council in September 2018 and has since been transformed in to a vibrant green multi-functional space with a new playground, shaded picnic areas, BBQs and an off-leash dog area.
The park celebrates the rich history of Ascot with a bandstand rotunda reminiscent of a similar build that featured in the 1930s.
Ascot Park has a three street frontage to Lancaster Rd, Kitchener Rd and the one-way McGill Avenue.
The name McGill is synonymous with racing in Queensland particularly Eagle Farm through the involvement of the family especially James McGill, a steward and a racing historian who was the founder of the BRC’s Racing Museum.
