3 October 2024

We're excited to announce that Karl deKroo has been appointed as the Brisbane Racing Club's new CEO.

Karl will be known by many in the racing industry through his executive leadership positions at some of the nation's largest wagering and media companies.

Karl has been a regular at Australian racetracks in his role as Executive Director - Stakeholder Engagement at Entain Australia and New Zealand which includes the Ladbrokes brand.

In this role, Karl has forged a strong relationship with the BRC through our association with Ladbrokes.

During Karl's five years at Entain, where he has also served as Chief Commercial Officer, he has built a deep understanding of racing along with its wagering, events and media rights.

Prior to his work with Entain, Karl was a highly regarded executive at News Corp, where he finished his 20-year career in media as the organisation's Marketing and Commercial Director.

His other roles included Head of Sport at The Courier-Mail, providing Karl with an in-depth knowledge of racing's treasured standing within the Queensland sporting environment.

"I am delighted to be joining the Brisbane Racing Club at a crucial juncture in its history," said Mr deKroo.

"It is going to be an exciting period as Queensland rides a wave of momentum and growth in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympics.

"I am acutely aware of the need to continue to upgrade key facilities, particularly at Eagle Farm and I look forward to executing the Club's strategic initiatives and Master Plan with the broader goals of enhancing racing's profile, engaging new and existing members and ensuring its long-term prosperity.

"I am a passionate horse racing fan, keen casual punter and luckless but committed owner.

"I am committed to preserving and enhancing the sport and ensuring that the BRC remains at the forefront of the industry both in Australia and internationally."

Karl will join the BRC at an exciting time for our Club.

While our Master Plan continues to advance, racing will always be our core business and the reason that Members flock to our courses.

We look forward to welcoming Karl, his wife Tanya and three children to our wider BRC family.

Karl will begin in the role on 28 November, in time for our Summer Carnival.
