The first time I attended the Stradbroke Cup many years ago, was also my first race day experience and I was hooked. I had been invited by a young man to be his date for the day. He mentioned that I needed to dress in appropriate race wear attire as we would be in the Members' enclosure. I had just finished university so I did not have a lot of money to purchase a new outfit. Therefore, I took my car (maroon Holden Torana) to the wreckers and received $200 cash for it. I then went shopping and bought myself a new grey wool suit and felt hat to wear to the Stradbroke Cup. Not only was my date impressed, but I had the best day of my life. I learned how to bet and even had a small win. I have been attending the races at Eagle Farm and Doomben ever since. Stradbroke Day has become a yearly social event for myself, my family and my friends and I am excited to say that my son is now able to attend as a young BRC member. Whilst the grey woollen suit is no longer in fashion, I have kept it as it reminds me of this life changing experience.

Recalling 6 years ago when our daughter came to visit from Sydney, so as a treat my wife and I took her to Stradbroke Day only for me to loose a heel on my shoe, no farrier needed, just walked with a limp.

2007 Sniper's Bullet winning. The reason being my disabled brother flew from Canberra & I flew from Sydney. The disabled access was not great back then but everyone assisted me to get him up into the Grandstand & then back down again at the end of the day. True Queensland friendliness & hospitality. We both have now moved the the Sunshine State & every time I go the Eagle Farm I think of that day.

After a long hiatus from Eagle Farm, watching Trekking with an explosive turn of foot take out the Stradbroke Handicap in 2019, ridden by the one and only Kerrin McEvoy.

There has been so many wonderful horses that have won the Stradbroke Handicap. The best winners include the great Rough Habit, Campaign King and Grey Receiver. The horse that stands out for me is the Queenslander Daybreak Lover winning it twice. What a great horse! It would be great to witness another great Queensland horse win.

I was a part owner of a horse named Frying Sparks, he won the Japan trophy on Stradbroke Day 2010. I am life member of QTC (now BRC) and never miss a Stradbroke day until this year.

1992 Rough Habit! The run & heart of the horse was remarkable, back-back Stradbrokes, ridden a treat by one of greats, Jimmy The Pumper Cassidy & you would go a long way to hear a better call from the late great Wayne Wilson! Were from the same hometown of Gladstone, Qld & I got to meet him & his lovely wife on the 2011 Ambassador Travel Melbourne Cup Trip where we spoke fondly of Gladstone and Rough Habits back-back Straddies!

Have to be when Black Piranha won in 2010 for me. None of my friends believed it would do it again. They did by the end of an epic day/night out for us, all expenses paid!

Allana R - Member since 2019

I have had quite a few memorable Stradbroke's however 2019 has so far taken the cake. I was there when gates opened to get a table for my friends and I, who I convinced to attend Stradbroke with me for the first time. Some lived locally in Brisbane and some (including myself) travelled from Gympie. I managed to get a spot on the Furphy Deck for all of us which in my opinion, had the best views of the track! We all had a great day which was topped off by Guy Sebastian's performance in the rain.

My very first time I made it to Stradbroke Day. I backed an old favourite of mine, River Lad, coupled with one D Oliver. Put $20.00 each way at $34.00.  A great night was had.

Mid Summer Music won the 2012 Stradbroke Handicap and there was romantic mid winter music in the air when I won the heart of my darling that I met on the day in the Ascot Room. Without doubt my favourite memory of Stradbroke Day. We are still racing together.

In 2018 I was deployed overseas with the army so wasn't able to make the races, fortunately I got a bet on and had the opportunity to roar home Santa Ana Lane at nice odds!

Michelle G - Member since 2019

I have been to many Stradbroke's but for me the 2009/2010 winner Black Pirahna is the most memorable. His mother, Jazztrack, was trained in Brisbane by my father and when Black Pirahna won, she was at our property in Gympie. I drove down to Brisbane with the kids to see him race in 2009 not really expecting him to win but just to show our support. It was so exciting for us to see Jazzy's baby win the greatest race in Queensland. In 2010 we made the trip again and were totally amazed that he was able to make it back to back wins. We made sure that Jazzy (who was in foal again) knew how proud we were of her and her first born.

I was trackside for the 2017 Stradbroke day. I nailed the trifecta in the Stradbroke Handicap. Scored a small percentage of the quaddie and enjoyed a fantastic day of on course entertainment with some great family and friends.

Rod K - Member since 2020

Rough Habits 2nd Stradbroke in 1992 was the highlight for me. The win was in the middle of him dominating Group 1 middle distance  races from 1991-1993, winning 11 Group 1s in total.

Bruce H - Member since 2009

My most memorable Stradbroke Hcp was on the 7 June 2003.  A small group of friends got together for a corporate function where we all picked a few winners on the day including Private Steer. My day ended on a high when one of my good friends asked me to be Godfather to his soon to be born first child.  My Goddaughter was born on 24 June 2003. The 2003 Stradbroke is a day that has often been recalled as a very special day.

There are many fond memories of the Stradbroke - Rough Habit was special, but my favourite was 1963 when local Mullala ridden by Darby McCarthy beat another local Prunda on the post first up. I was with my dad and brother-in-law (now both deceased). Dad backed Mullala, the brother-in-law backed Prunda. Brings back wonderful memories of days at the races!

The 2002 Stradbroke was won by a great Queensland horse Show a Heart, trained by a great horseman the late Barry Miller. What a day with Favelon running second and I did have a handsome win on the quinella and trifecta. Both Queensland horses trained by Queenslanders and to do it at Queensland's premier race track Eagle Farm!

My fondest memory is of the 2018 winner Santa Ana Lane. We flew up from Victoria to spend the day with our long-term friends who we hadn't seen for a number of years and had the most wonderful day in the Member's area thanks to the Brisbane Racing Club. I have since moved to Brisbane for work and the Club was the first one I joined when I arrived based on that first experience I had on Stradbroke Day back in 2018. We also ran into the owners of Santa Ana Lane later that night who shouted us drinks!

Jo J - Member Since 2019

2019 Stradbroke was my favourite because it was my first as a BRC member! I remember it was wonderful to be back at Eagle Farm and the weather was cool, so frocking up in fabulous winter racewear - black and white with a touch of red - was a pleasure. Spent a fabulous day in the Champagne Bar with great friends who are also members.

2018 Stradbroke Day at Doomben. We had a group of 20 and over $1000 in the punting club pool, we couldn't find 1 winner. Then we got a phone call at 4:30pm to say we just won $10,000 in the 50-50 fundraiser draw held on course that day! Talk about a big night!

Russell H - Member Since 2006

Best Stradbroke Day memory was Landsighting winning in the wet. My wife was sitting in the car wet from the rain - but we still had a good win on the race!

2012 Midsummer Music. As a mad and loyal Peter Moody follower, I stalked his website each week to see where his horses were running, and it was very satisfying to see him win at our home track. Celebrations were great.

My favourite TAB Stradbroke Day memory is cheering Trekking to win the race while sipping champagne in the back of the fabulous luxury boat used in the Marina precinct last year.

Saturday June 11th 1983 - Elders Handicap due to sponsored by Elders IXL Limited, yours truly box 6 steeds in a trifecta which Brenlaine, Manuan and Noisy Parker were the placings and paid a tidy sum.

I fell in love with a filly named Srikandi during the 2014 carnival and I was so thrilled to see her take out the Stradbroke in 2015 that I nearly fell off my chair! The track was a Good 3 that day, but the ground underneath the bar stool I was standing on during the race was a Soft 7 at best. I met Ciaron Maher in the Falvelon Bar after the race and eloquently professed my appreciation for his training efforts, and for his flowing locks.

My most memorable TAB Stradbroke Day was 2016. I was in my late 20s and a week before hand I had been made redundant from my 'forever' job after 8 years - I was down in the dumps. My husband reassured me we would have a fun day with friends and hopefully have a successful day on the punt. I studied the night before hand, and come raceday was not having an inch of success - I just couldn't back a winner, let alone a placing, at any race meet! I had fancied Under The Louvre for a while, and decided just to chuck the rest of my money on the nose. I ended up with a few grand! Shouted my mates for the rest of the afternoon, and headed to the rugby later that night. Was a day to remember!

Has to be Rough Habit in 1992. My father took me as a 20 year old. Still get goose bumps watching the replay. Fell in love with racing ever since and can't recall a Stradbroke I've missed!  We were actually looking at trying to rent one of those houses that overlook the track so we wouldn't miss Stradbroke Day this year! (we had no luck).

Brad W - Member Since 2019

Stradbroke 2018, with the lads for a bucks, horrible day on the punt, but everyone backed Santa Ana Lane in for the win in the big race - capped off a cracker day of racing and socialising.

Denis W - Member Since 2018

After collecting on Black Piranha in the 2009 Straddie, I had to back him again but this time at big odds in 2010 when bookies didn't think he could repeat the task. Lets just say they would of heard me cheer from another suburb when he was declared the 2010 winner in a photo! Safe to say the beers were flowing and the celebration continued on in Racecourse Rd. It was one of the most memorable days of racing I've ever had. So much fun!

Early 1980's trainer Kevin Vizer used to set up marquee down past St Ledger stand where he put on a BBQ, beers and great view of races.

2006 La Montagna. It was our first pre-paid function that we attended under the old St Ledger stand - a wet day, but the food and drinks were amazing. After a slow start I had such a good day that we paid our daughter on the spot for tickets to Robbie Williams at Suncorp Stadium, we then booked our 25th Wedding Anniversary function for 40 guests at the Guineas Room and applied and gained membership that we have cherished ever since.

The roar of the crowd cheering in rapturous amazement at Rough Habit, when the mighty champion won back to back Stradbroke Handicap's in 1992, climbing off the canvas and storming home from near last in the capacity field to get up late on the fence and in the process set the metric weight winning Stradbroke Handicap record of 58.5 kg, all courtesy of a masterful weaving ride from The Pumper Jimmy Cassidy.

Mark D - Member Since 2014

Attending my first Stradbroke as a 12 year old with my father in 1971. Rajah Sahib won that day and my choice Intrepid Clipper finished third. My most vivid memory was of the huge crowd, and the fact that to get a seat in the grandstand for the big race, we had to stay put from the race before.

Stuart R - Member Since 2013

Five years ago driving down from the Sunshine Coast with a mate of mine to watch the Straddie. The place was packed and by the time we found a park and got inside there was only 1 race before the Straddie. There was only one bet for me that day and that was Srikandi. Finding a spot out the front was near impossible but by the time they jumped we had our spot near the post. McEvoy rode her beautifully and pulled away for an amazing win (many doubted her after her previous 2 runs but I kept the faith!). We collected our winnings and back in the car to the coast to celebrate.

Two Stradbroke Day's stand out. One in the members with great service and the other was a special invitation to The Birdcage with delicious food, beverages and great people (including one of our faves Troy Cassar-Daley!).

Riding the merry-go-round on Stradbroke Day in 2018 with my friend and fellow horse racing tragic Monique who comes up from Melbourne every year! It's our girls weekend and we go to a Stradbroke Eve lunch (usually lasts til 10pmh) and then back up for Stradbroke Day - challenging sometimes but we would never miss it!!! Getting on the merry go round horse was a challenge (I have a photo) in a slim fitting knee length dress and high heels but I did it and it was the perfect end to yet another amazing and fun Stradbroke Day! As an owner, a member and just a plain old horse racing fan I can't wait to be trackside again.

Spending Stradbroke Day with our son for the first time in 2019 - he was only 2 months old!

My favourite Stradbroke memory day is being at the track on a beautiful sunny Brissie day with all my friends. The sky as blue as blue and the track so green you want to roll in it. It's me backing lots of winners, enjoying a nice cool drink and delicious food. The Stradbroke is such a fun filled day with lots of great horse racing, great fashion and friendly happy punters.

2012 Mid Summer Music denies Buffering. Pretty sure every Queenslander at the track was with Buffering that day as was I but only for P. Moody and side kick L. Nolen to damper the party. Surrounded by good company, racing and excellent facilities. There is nothing quite like a day trackside with good friends, great racing and huge atmosphere as you receive on a Straddy Day. Keep up the good work.

Sandi B - Member Since 2011

Mr Barritone 2008!  I was at the races with two friends who were first time race goers and told them he was the one to back. We had $50 each way and won a fortune! We also met the trainer of the second horse, Hard to Catch at the Hammo that night, and participated in commiseration drinks with him.

2019 Stradbroke Day for sure! It was my first ever Stradbroke Day in Members and the feel of the day just raised to a whole new class. Being around people who are there for socialising, but also for the love of the sport. I got to wear an amazing dress and the winnings, the winnings are always a bonus!

Joshua M - Member Since 2010

So many great memories of my favourite day of the year but 2016 wins by a short half head. It was the first day back at the new Eagle Farm as the Oaks meeting was abandoned due to a freak weather event. It was so special to be back at headquarters for a huge ten race card with four group 1s. I even managed to find a few winners on the day!

When my sister announced the date and location of her wedding ceremony, it would be fair to say there was a mixed reception of emotions throughout the family. June 11 2016, up at Caloundra beach - also Stradbroke Day. A father-son tradition, dating back to 2008, where I attended the races for the very first time. In my Dad's words you don't host a wedding or a party on any Saturday during the Brisbane Racing Winter Carnival! At the wedding, we were able to pull up a low quality stream of the race and witnessed Under the Louvre hold on!

Edan B - Member Since 2017

We always attend Stradbroke Day with a very special racing friend of ours. In early 2018 she was very badly injured. To be able to return with her later that year to the Stradbroke, in one of her first trips out was heart warming. Will never forget it.

Nicholas C - Member Since 2016

My favourite Stradbroke memory is Daybreak Lovers second win in 1986 after a year away at stud. A brilliant achievement to not only win the race again after his 1984 effort but to also do it in race record time. Of course the memory is enhanced by the fact that I backed him and had very nice collects on both occasions!

Craig G - Member Since 2016

In 1979 I went with my brother to watch the Stradbroke and cheer on Imposing, as Peter Cook was my favourite jockey, and what an amazing win it was! I was 15 and have been hooked on racing and going to the Brisbane races ever since! I've been s BRC member for 10 years plus and still love Straddie Day!

John H - Member Since 1985

When Rough Habbit won the second time. In the mounting yard he had his head down just plodding around and when the pumper jumped on board his ears pricked up and he started walking on his toes. He new it was show time! I went and put the house on him, after that I owned two houses.
